Celebrating the Chinese-American cultural heritage of the Midwest
THE CHINESE-AMERICAN MUSEUM SHOP
This is the first item we have ever offered for sale: the accompanying volume for our current "Paper Sons" exhibition.
The title is Chinese in Chicago, 1870-1945, published by Arcadia Publishing for the Chinatown Museum Foundation. The editors are Chuimei Ho and Soo Lon Moy, with articles by them as well as Grace Chun and Bennet Bronson. The book was first released for sale on August 21, 2005.
The book contains 180 photographs and 14,000 words. The text, derived from the Museum's own research, summarizes the history of Chinese in the Midwest down through World War II. None of the photographs have been previously published. They come from private collections and government archives, as scanned and processed by Museum specialists.
The book sells for $20.00, plus $2.00 sales tax and -- if applicable -- $4.00 for shipping.
Checks should be made out to the Chinatown Museum Foundation. Orders may be sent to the Foundation at P.O.Box 167298, Chicago, IL 60616-7298, or may be purchased at the Museum at 238 West 23rd Street during opening hours (Friday morning and all day Saturday and Sunday).
We don't know who the baby was, incidentally. The picture was definitely taken in Chicago, about 1920 or before. We have asked many members of old-time Chicago Chinese families. Thus far no one has recognized him.
